Year 13 Sea Kayaking

Using Mark Garry and Pacific Coast Kayaks once again proved to be a winner for our students.
Our first skill day was spent on Tutukaka Harbour, with all students progressing well.
They were organised and supportive of each other, checking and self-monitoring as they went along.kayak1

Day 3 Had us leaving from Kowharewa Bay, on an adventure around the headland to Ngunguru.  After rock hopping along the coastline, and cruising along with a large seal, we stopped half way at a secluded beach, which had a stream shower!  Students went for a swim, snorkelled for kina, and generally had a breather and lunch.  After more sunscreen, we headed around Wellington’s Point into the wind to Whangamumu Bay, then up the river to the Ngunguru Hot Chip shop.

The growth and skill development of our students over these days is impressive.  All achieved  the skills required for meeting the standard, and got the benefit of Mark’s professional experience and safety management.  Their positive attitude and supportive attitude shone through at all times.
