Level 3 Art students collaborated to create this mural at Tikipunga High School during 2 days of intense learning. They made the most of this fantastic opportunity to work with local businessman, tattoo artist and international graffiti artist TAWCK.
All of the students involved contributed their ideas to the final design. Their brief was to create something ‘beautiful’ to enhance our learning environment and to reflect the culture of the students who learn here. This is shown in their choice of bright colour, Maori patterns, carved Kaitiaki pou, a native Tui and a young woman. They have also incorporated Manaia as a symbol of protection for the mural. The carved kaitiaki guardian figure actually stands in the technology courtyard and we have a Tui who lives at our school singing and dancing in the tree outside the Whare as Waiata are performed.
We hope that our rangitahi will enjoy this new artwork in their school.
