Chainsaws In Action

Eight students from the Ag/Hort course undertook a chainsaw safety course with Cantrain.  The course was run by local guy Tristan, who was flexible to our needs, connected and identified well with our students.

The theory day went well, for the practical component on Tuesday.  After some practice on Monday afternoon, we booted up and headed to Vinegar Hill to put cutting theory into action.  In groups, students donned PPE and took turns on different saws, learning and practicing different cutting skills.  Four large trees had been dropped previously for this purpose.  The wood was cut and loaded onto a trailer for delivery.

The students were challenged greatly by the experience, they supported each other well and represented the School values at all times.  All students achieved 17 level two credits!
Many thanks for all those who assisted in creating this opportunity and experience for our kids.

Big thanks to Rina and Janet at Careers.
