YEAR 10 WAITANGI TRIP
On Tuesday, Mr Mills and Whaea Taua took 13 Year 10 students north. We visited Ruapekapeka, battle site. The students bonded well up there, and completed a worksheet on the battle site and learnt a lot from the visit there. We then headed to Kawakawa for a shared kai.
Next stop was Waitangi Golf course for views and a talk overlooking the places of note in the Bay. We cruised back through Paihia to the car ferry to Russell, up to the flag pole then into town to visit the Church and have lunch in the town.
Many thanks to Whaea for her wonderful way of being around the kids, and to the Ngunguru Fire Brigade for the use of their van.
Ka mua, ka muri – Looking back in order to move forward
A perfect day for a haerenga with our akonga and their kaiako Mr Mills to our sacred and significant places of our past. It was my pleasure to tautoko our Social Studies / Tikanga a iwi year 10 class today. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to our students’ discussions and viewing our ataahua landscape with them. Nga mihi nui. Na Whaea Taua-Glassie. (Photo’s by Whaea Taua)
